I am the master of this universe!

Some faithful day in 2004 my best friend Jason told me his dreams were vivid, as if it was reality, no incongruousness in the images. At first I was in a state of disbelief, my dreams were cloudy, literally. A thick cloud of white smoke floats around the images from my dream, like a frame. Then after much more questioning, I believed, and I went home wanting to harness this universe for entertainment and fun, just like the movies.

After that my dreams started to become vivid, very very vivid.

A few days ago, I dreamed I was still taking trese complete with all the exams and examples, and I was even solving one question using my calculator but I stopped to simulate the mechanics in my head.

Then I was in computer science coding some codes, well this one isn't that vivid, helping my gradeschool best friend.

Then my sleep from 11am to 1pm a while ago was the most brazen and vivid yet.

I dreamed I (and my grandfather) [ you see, I become my grandfather when she was in the proximity, after that, I became I and was listening to my grandfather again] was in 1830, then watching an old black and white movie show in the theater at the right wing of engineering, My grandfather had the last Cadbury spherical chocolate in the world and then he was with his date. Then I saw you. [Now this is got to be molded based on the kitchen gods wife in 1930.] Then news broke out there was no more chocolate, I passed by you many many times while holding the chocolate to impress you that I had that one last chocolate. Then by the end of the show it was thrown up up in the air somehow. Then I had to catch it. You were in my left, the lower left. Then by the time I caught the spherical chocolate everyone was clapping and I, smiling. I was in a word, charming. Then it was my grandfather in the image of wolverine smiling. Then I chose to give to you the chocolate instead of my date. Why then after giving the chocolate to you, I asked, why my grandfather, and you did not came to be. Why you and I did not came to be.

The dream changed even before I answered the question , as if it was to protect the owner of this universe from unhappy thoughts, and I realized I was dreaming. I realized it was worthless to be dreaming, no point in dreaming if you're not there. So I was awoken by myself. It was a very rare instance that somewhere in my dream, I realized that what I am staring at is a curtain, just like in my theater dream, so I just got up.

Trust is of utmost importance especially during these trying times.

Advancement in technology and science must be coupled with the advancement of the human intellect, moral compass and human consciousness a whole. Weapons that caused mass destruction like the Nuclear Bombing in Japan provided a grim reminder of the failure of this scenario. Today with the enormous data gathered and mined by technology by the internet, many consider that George Orwell’s1984, is not too farfetched.

But i disagree; we have been able to keep up with the advancement of technology. But in the case of the media, creating profit oriented shows that only give temporary satisfaction, excitement and prizes. Also in the case of enormous goods and services that we have managed to create, they still are not being optimally allocated for all. Some very smart people could have prepared us for this, but they were busy advancing science and other fields. Literature is helping this be solved now.

I believe in the not so far future all of this will be gone,vanished and people will look back at our folly. Much like we look back and wonder, they used lead cups and lead plates!?!? They practiced Lobotomy!?!? They sacrificed people to appease the weather gods?!?!

Will someone in the future look upon our time now, at our folly , with the same look of superiority we do now of the past?

i believe that the message pera pera lang yan is at irresponsible. Subtle it is tha idolatry of money, one of the worst sins. i expected more discretion, you are telling people that money is the most important thing. though you may not neccesarily originally intended to do so, this subliminal messaging will invariably effect our (listeners) decision in our daily lives. yes you could argue that you have free will, but this priming is sure to affect us someway and somehow. it encourages us to be antisocial in some way. have you heard of the psychological study that if they show people dollars they will more likely later on act more anti-socially. i believe it is my responsibilty to make your taglines do more than influence people to buy this, and join that. my responsibility to make you remember your responsibility to each and everyone of us.

Five Nuts in a Shell

1. The News Today in Primetime is more of current events centered than people centered. (with slogans like “Pag may nangyari nakareport agad” at “Alerto bente kwatro oras” at “nagbabagang balita” among others). The News should be categorized more according to importance and influence to us, not by its flashiness in its one day shelf life. I'm not suggesting we stop altogether our interest in current events, like; roadside accidents, traffic, weather, out flux of graduates, dancing inmates, botcha, bagyo, lindol, roadwork, inflation, but report only that can significantly affect our lives especially in this time slot where the Filipino family gathers and shares a meal. They sometimes search for something interesting; why not make the important and the urgent interesting?

2. Make that fundamental paradigm shift. Make people the ultimate consumer not the news that has an exciting video footage as the ultimate product. By being people centered it can better equip us with tools to discern with greater understanding the mechanisms that shape our lives profoundly in more ways than one; one of which is the government policies. It will tremendously help us vote for the candidates truly representing our voice, our informed and much deliberated voice, so that less room for regrets and impeachments afterwards and capricious surveys. Also alleviating worthy politicians burden to sugar coat the not so sweet truth and hide in ambiguous although inspiring statements.

3. Experts and intellectuals should vent more of their opinions than asking more people in the sidewalks and the congress, where few are more rational than emotional and more of vested interest (not in order). These should be done in the primetime where maximum efficacy is expected, not like today where only on obscure hours and before election time and before/after some latest enacted policy. These so called experts maybe wrong or right, so opinions from two opposing sides should be shown equally, debating and presenting their ideas. (This is clearly the better way.) 4. Much much greater cooperation with the academe (economist, psychologist, lawyers, engineers, sociologist, doctors, scientist, environmentalist, etc ) are indispensible in taking this path; and, if possible make it the integral part and have the lion's share in the primetime news.

5. Government could directly largely help/subsidize this but it is going to be very very tricky, particularly if politics which is not an exact science meddles with this. But I may be wrong.

This is what happens if one reads Plato or browses Einstein Reader for some time and is exposed to a raging firestorm of opposing ideas every now and then, and has lot’s and lot’s of idle time.

The shampoo industry commercials that saturate the air waves are worth singling out. Those super shiny, super smooth hairs are an obvious exaggeration. The curious thing is that when watching those integrations and green's theorem is that they are not exaggerating, they were not roughly estimating, they were exacting, and they were informing, and they were educating.

So why not lessen commercials to make way for more informative and Educational News input on primetime. A second of commercial may cost a hundred thousand pesos. It is logical to kind of calculate if it is worth it, so the cost can be divided by the number of person reached and influenced. As the current state goes, there are lots of commercials it must have been calculated that if commercial air time is reduced, profits for the News Network will too, be reduced; even if price per second is jacked up, so the price will be elastic. Now it’s all going to change with the Educational News, every second is multiplied to the number of people helped and taught. Economist can calculate how much each year of education of a person adds to the GDP, and before long every second of the Educational News can be measured as such. Anyway a rigorous cost benefit analysis leads to an inevitable conclusion that the benefits far outweigh the cost.

tackle opinions of so called experts. a systematic research on how news could deliver the maximum benifit for all. if news industries today are true to its credo it would do extensive research. before reporting anything, does this actually help, add substantial knowledge to the human stock. repeated shots at the blood while the news reporter ask light questions is not that good. how about an opinion of a MMDA each time this happens, a psychologist, a lawyer to know things such as the last clear chance, so that when accidents do happen, we are saved from illogical and self-serving one-sided arguments. once i saw the thing, the argument was circular arriving at a certain nowhere. if these people just knew. then i would not have to constrain myself to telling them lest i get tangled up. this last clear chance was common sense to me, my father being a lawyer. but to them it seemed an esoteric knowledge. after all waht is common sense but the summation of past experiences and distilled into a useful adage. maybe if this kind of things are incorporated into news, into the primetime news, then it would be commonsense to all. there is a nightly radio program for lawyers that tells this stuff, and it will be better if its with the news that has video, which is the comparative advantage of tv news a picture is worth a thousand words, what does 24frames a second tell? also if it is a thousand words they are jumbled and need some deciphering, that brings us to the neccessity of opinion. precisely crafted words by experts. instead of 10 problems pointed out by news, why not 2 but with sensible follow up questions and solutions from the academe with opposing or at least not synchronous solutions.

i think that the primary function of news is to point out what is wrong and that is all. it can be more. a lot more. it can still be unbiased by showing the two side's ipinion\

they work in the subconscious , again and again in an ever repetitive cycle, maybe they have successfully (unfortunately) inculcated to some that it will always be the same. the same old problem just different actors, which is not exactly the case. when asking taxi drivers, extended family, strangers, some of them have hopelessness beyond reproach in a single encounter.

Find a need and fill it in, not find what people think they need and fill it in. Does seeing those stuff really mean a thing? Even watching fire burning again in again from various angles of a camer does not count for entertainment. The television set could be much much more than what it is today.

i believe in a simple truth that there is only one best answer and that if two choices are available, one is the better one. like if its a choice of red or white. say white is the better answer. those who support red must not have enough information, consciously or subconsciously know it will benifit them more, or just riding the bandwagon. their particular style is that they bombard us with useless or non sequitor information. that we may believe, they wish.

what if not only to us applies/works with us students but to the masses? giving them this powerful tool would enable them to discern more what really is. this would specially come in handy in a democratic country like ours where informed people could vote informed politicians. immensely untapped resource. of course deaths, calamities ,botcha and other events will still be in the primetime. what i am questioning is really seeing those blood, people, and things which is news but are they really qualified to be in the front page? to be in the primtime? to be in the headline? they are just symptomatic of the society's present ills and could be relegated for they have no immediate effect on me. they could have gleanings of knowledge here and there but much dirty digging the nitty gritty and introspection and reflection and musing and thinking have to occur first.

Day by day, listening to the morning radio news during my trips to school, i began uncover something that made me quite uneasy that compelled me to think for some time and to write about it. My little paper concerns itself about the way news programs are constructed and presented and how it could be reconstructed and represented for the betterment of all, by means of providing analysis provided by experts of clashing opinions seamlessly integrated within the news. it encourages passivity if the dots are not connected and soon enough a charismatic somone who claims to know this comes around and explains these phenomenons in a larger context that is flawed and illogical but based on a cursory examination is true (for the masses of people are not really given the tools) and it will do for this guy/girl. it not only allows stupid politicians enter the scene but also forces better politicians a cut above the rest resort to lying by giving unreasonable platforms and projects and using vague but inspiring talks. Walang Kurap walang mahirap, does not really give a timeline, and because of this, some bunch of people are restless and start what they know they can do, that can help, which is to rally, to vadalize, to waste human time and energy doing this. i really do not know much of the dynamics that goes around this society, what is know is only of little but it is enough for me to write this impossible piece. As news here and there sprout like mushrooms, all the limelight is immediately turned towards it. Even though it may be less of importance. Why is it, that, after 3 years the financial fiasco is not yet over? It simply can be attributed to the fact that we are divided. Divided in actions, thoughts and ideologies but still subtly united by the ultimate common goal. Why is it that what divides us, in the short term overrides what unites us in the long term?Each and everyone pursue narrowly the greatest profit in the least amount of time. Breeding no trust, no sacrifice.

Economists study the human behavior and his interaction with one of his greatest creation; the free market. They have built countless studies and theories that more or less describe the current situation. But what is current then, is not current now. That is why they have a hard time grasping the current situation. Confusing isn't it? Let me be a little bit clearer. What is happening now, is being studied and after a while there is an explanation, solution and all that theories. But then, in a future crises, they will apply the past knowledge, explanation, theories just like a template and they hope it will work like magic. Of course, it does not.

The current FED chairman Ben Bernanke was once and still is a geek about the great depression. By everyone's standard he knows the odds and quirks of the last Great Depression, that is good news right? Just apply template of the solution then to as now, right? Not quite, for that was the last one. Besides even if it will work, with minor revisions here and there, Ben cannot just implement the policies or even Barrack ,for my last argument is exactly what the opposition use as they cry in garbled unison. The opposition, true to their creed and name, will always be the opposition, fight whatever the current policy is or rather the current government, so furiously unreasonable, that if they will hear themselves from afar, they wouldn't believe anyone to be capable of such blatant stupidity.

Of course there are notable exceptions. But they are too few to significantly affect the current standstill to progress. Of course, in time, the truth will reveal itself, but at what cost, after the mistaken economic and political policy that has been enacted and the grave consequences done for?

As long as this thinking, this culture that is predominant is not changed. The ideologies will not progress much. Then the laws and policies will not change much. Then people with weak internal control of character will not change much for the better.

The solution so as that in the future this momentary grid-lock will never happen again even for a moment is, to instill the culture. What kind exactly and how? I don't know.

it started with me in the jeep, sightseeing. for a moment i thought i saw the name hans rosling on the tarpaulin posted on the side of the economics building. then a few milliseconds more, i realized i was right. i am going to be there no matter what. going to listen and understand what he has to say. you might consider this phenomena prevalent between people and the hollywood stars, where they go crazy and wild. but for me, all this excitement built up, and after alighting the jeep, it released me to run back to my boarding home.

the day came, which is this day. i only slept for 2 hrs, but it doesn't matter. not one bit. i know an opportunity when i see one. this doesn't happen every year or even a couple of years. a man of his stature, not really a couple of years. but according to him, our country is poised to somewhat gain international power and economic might in years to come, due to demographics. so he might be round sooner than expected.

forecast of more than 50 years: economists may be wrong, doctors may be wrong, but demographers are right. cuz the people who will give birth to offspring alive at that time is already alive now. his argument that since information flows freely around the globe, the salient factor now is the population of the country. gone are the days, (about 200 yrs and more ago), when a small city state like venice, or country like britain can keep their patents, comparative advantage, and their highly guarded trade secrets. now almost anything is in the web, even top secret ones (wikileaks). so population will be the overriding factor, supposing all the other things nearly similar. for 6000 years, asia was the superpower, not the 'old west'. only that blip in time, the coming of the industrial revolution of 300 years ago that they usurped the throne.

how does this affect me? you ask? it means that global brands are not for the 'western cultures' and japan's toyota and toshiba alone. see china's lenovo and foxcon. see south korea's samsung. see ....

after several days of forced study in engineering science 13, i must say i have also learned to appreciate the beauty of it, of them. there are bodies of studies and evidence that conclusively point out that familiarity is an essential part of beauty and love and all things happy. it has something to do with risk aversion, fear, brain processes less, atavistic tendency, dependency etc, etc, etc.

now that i have sufficiently built an ideological framework of the loadings, stresses, moments and all. (i live for the moment!:)). civil engineering isn't so hard and boring after all. they build things that last, and that has tangible economic value that delivers results fast, quantifiable and most of all, needed. a million words could not make the pyramid nor the empire state building or even build a house that becomes a home. setting all the rhetoric aside, i see that it would be better if we all could, would quantify all of what we know. not pursue only higher philosophical knowledge/wisdom but also compliment it with science. in this modern era, where science is its foundation and not understanding the story of the numbers means having knowledge but that of unsatisfactory and of meager kind. this fundamental realignment of my paradigm, my means, will inevitably bring me closer to that end:)

Rationality Series 1

In light of the recent events, with human rationality taking the center stage plus the entire ruckus it all leads to an inevitable conclusion; joining is fun.

I am starting a series. I doubt thee; the rationality series.

From now up until a foreseeable future, I will allocate the most precious, non-renewable resource called time. Rationality is the most contentious subject that i find interesting. This writing may be thought to belong in the enlightenment period centuries ago, that is correct, for it is a counterargument to the ideas sweeping throughout at the time. The supposedly causative models that “mathematical” bankers championed, led us to have an almost financial meltdown. For it had a fundamental underlying flaw; man is a rational being (all the time).

If man was highly rational being all the time, then there wouldn’t be conflicts and that would leave no room for regret in the dictionary. (so what I am doing maybe nonsense)

What goes on in a human mind before it makes a decision? in the plethora of choices available to us in this modern era where freedom is the byword, what gives?

Before we begin in this whirlwind tour into the depths of the human mind, a word of caution is an

Let us begin with the most studied and the least understood: Democracy. (i admit, i exaggerated)

Six years ago I had the blessing to listen to an ACLE with the title “is Democracy Mathematically Unsound?”

The argument was simple; given 2 choices, if you like one more then you like the other one less, it works, but given 3 or more, democracy where starts to break down.

In a nutshell, democracy is not the rule of the majority but the rule of the plurality that sometimes does not know what it wants until it got it.

In the book Blink by Gladwell, in chapter Locked Door, a girl [he named her Mary], was asked what does he want in a man. She answered sincere and intelligent. That was before the speed dating started, now a few seconds after speed dating John (yep, codename), she now changes her answer to funny and attractive. That is because John is funny and attractive, and that is far form sincere and intelligent which she is supposed to be on the lookout. A day after, she still wants funny and attractive, then a month after, she goes back to looking for sincere and intelligent. So, what does she want? Really? Then there is this 44 peanut butter experiment which holds up the same conclusion, that we don't know what we really like at least to communicate it verbally, sometime.

So with these in mind, is man still a rational being?

in as sense, each and everyone of us consider ourselves infallible from moment to moment. for no one errs knowing or willingly. case in point, when one is doing something wrong, he justifies it that given the situation he can do nothing else, in effect what he does is not totally wrong, but a righty wrong. only after some time and events will he realize that there are no such things as a righty wrong, only a righty right or a wrongy wrong. say, someone insults you and you made sure his nose never got aligned again, the action is justified by the verbal attack, which you being ineloquent can only retaliate through a physical assault. afterwards, the inevitable consequence ensues. so it began as it is wrong to punch him, but i've got no choice, therefore i am righty wrong. then i was wrong and stupid, i could have not do it and walked away. i know this topic is really tricky to communicate given the constraints of time and patience, notwithstanding i will proceed.

about half a millennium ago, Leonardo dreamed that man could fly. first think about the environment at that time, imagine the setting. no steel, no electricity, no laws of motion, no cars, only the fast horses and the the pompous royalty at the time. people mocked at him, saying; if God wanted us to fly he would have given us wings! still he persevered, he pondered, he drew and drew and imagined some more. dozens of generations later, the people understood his grand design but misunderstood how could the existing circumstances then, create a genius such as him, centuries ahead of his time. he had a tremendous amount of belief in himself to continue his works, a certain degree of infallibility. so the moral of the story is to never let the people, specially the cynical people of the world let you down, only you can let you down. it's us against the world can be bleaker still, for it can be an i against the world...

"unlimited rice", upon seeing those words, i immediately realized how fortunate it is that the meal is only priced at 99 pesos. inception said it best. a dream you start in the middle not the beginning. i was swimming in the sea then i started to just float there and fell asleep afront a huge cement wall. feeling seismic tremors i awoke but returned to sleep yet again. then water started drifting away and i knew then and there that it was a tsunami. i ran as fast as i could to the nearby lighthouse/civic center/dormitory with an intimidating giant facade of greyish black cement. those wild rushing torrent of untrifling force rocked with surreal force that ginormous structure. i saw vividly how those light lively blue waves smashed against the dark gloomy bulwark and it was frightning beyond compare. as i tried to escape towards the farther end towards land, those rooms with wooden doors can't help but escape my notice. i saw first godo and dem and peralta. dem immediately sat beside me and godo stood beside peralta all this while all us in the spirit of lively banter. i was looking for bac-q and sosomo and asked them... i can't remember their reply but i do remember they are safe. moving along i saw a room, with slightly brown door that is partly open, about 50 degrees and with light from inside. then i saw bac q with his usual neck length black hair and usual jovial smile... feeling safe; i returned to the forepart of the hulking structure. i saw somebody's sadness in his eyebrows... then i told him "we will rebuild, we will rebuild"in a fleeting voice while rushing towards the aftermath of a used-to-be-city bathed in the gray cloud filtered glow of the early sun.

1. The News Today in Primetime is more of current events centered than people centered. (with mottos like “Pag may nangyari nakareport agad” at “Alerto bente kwatro oras” at “nagbabagang balita”). The News should be categorized more according to importance and influence to us, not by its flashiness and one day shelf life. I'm not suggesting we stop altogether our interest in current events, like roadside accidents, traffic, weather, out flux of graduates, dancing inmates, botcha, bagyo, lindol, roadwork, inflation, but report only that can significantly affect our lives especially in this time slot where the Filipino family shares a meal. They sometimes search for something interesting; why not make the important and the urgent interesting?

2. By making the people the ultimate consumer not the news as the ultimate product. By being people centered it can better equip us with tools to discern with greater understanding the mechanisms that shape our lives profoundly and in more ways than one; one of which is the government policies. It will tremendously help us vote for the candidates truly representing our voice, our informed and much deliberated voice, so that less room for regrets and impeachments afterwards. Also helping worthy politicians not to sugar coat the not so sweet truth and hide in ambiguous statements.

3. Experts and intellectuals should vent more of their opinions than asking more people in the sidewalks and the congress where few are more emotional than rational. These should be done in the primetime where maximum efficacy is expected not like today where only on obscure hours and before election time and before/after some latest enacted policy. These so called experts maybe wrong or right, so opinions from two opposing sides should be shown debating and presenting their ideas. (This is clearly the better way.) (time/newsweek magazine)

4. Much much greater cooperation with the academe (economist, psychologist, lawyers, engineers, sociologist, doctors ) are indispensible in taking this path and if possible make it the integral part and have the lion's share in the primetime news.

5. Government could directly largely help/subsidize this but it is going to be very very tricky, particularly if politics which is not an exact science meddles with this. But I may be wrong.

The shampoo industry commercials that saturate the air waves are worth singling out. Those super shiny super smooth hairs are an obvious exaggeration. The thing is that when watching those integrations and green's theorem is that they are not exaggerating, they were not roughly estimating, they were exacting, and they were informing and educating. (I really think i must have hurt my chances applying in those companies). Though we must account the placebo effect these commercials have.ß This argument leads to lessening of commercials to input more news and education on primetime

When i look closely at America the foremost hub of democracy of the world, what the Philippines may become in the future. And notice how much behind are we. I feel that why not learn from their mistakes, fools prefer to learn by experience i prefer to learn from others. There is of course one right answer but there is a lot of noise, and even in the fundamental ideology there still debates. Voters there are not that informed cuz they change sides every so often, particularly after 2 years of the incumbent president, by making the congress be taken by the other party.

we must not overreact nor underreact. but in search for an attention grabbing headline, news is compromised and settle to overhype things up. never retaliate. most people dont read the complex analysis in newspapers they watch news.

i know this helps us see the pattern of the human psyche. but wouldn't it help more if experts bring it outright into our consciousness the solutions from our subconscious. understand the pattern not see them isolatedly with just 2 or 3 connections, its thousands, the mathematical formula taylor series. one finds the formula by seeing the whole, the connections. news the probability of it happpening is slim, why not discuss what is sure to affect us. news helps a lot by pointing out what is wrong and rotten. and it can be more, if they can offer solutions

instead of 10 problems pointed out by news, why not 2 but with sensible follow up questions and solutions from the academe with opposing or at least not synchronous solutions.

i think that the primary function of news is to point out what is wrong and that is all. it can be more. a lot more. it can still be unbiased by showing the two side's ipinion\

they work in the subconscious , again and again in an ever repetitive cycle, maybe they have successfully (unfortunately) inculcated to some that it will always be the same. the same old problem just different actors, which is not exactly the case. when asking taxi drivers, extended family, strangers, some of them have hopelessness beyond reproach in a single encounter.

Find a need and fill it in, not find what people think they need and fill it in. Does seeing those stuff really mean a thing? Even watching fire burning again in again from various angles of a camer does not count for entertainment.The television set could be much much more than what it is today.

instead of being primarily influenced by marketing, advertisement, sparringly use of ambiguous words and others by politicians. in short, it helps us lift the veil of ignorance. it helps us discern.

Ask a question before the program ends and offer the best known solution tomorrow.
If not the experts the reporters could themselves offer solutions and more tidbits of information in a given subject. Quality than quantity.
use statistics, ALWAYS, cuz it helps us see the big picture.

like the segment, salamat doc for doctors, how about a segment for economist. of course i think it must be considered imfeasible by the market studies. but one of the characteristic of the modern business is that they don't ask a million surveys and do accordingly. No sir’ee , they do not. they study the human psyche and act accordingly.

i believe in a simple truth that there is only one best answer and that if two choices are available, one is the better one. like if its a choice of red or white. say white is the better answer. those who support red must not have enough information, consciously or subconsciously know it will benifit them more, or just riding the bandwagon. their particular style is that they bombard us with useless or non sequitor information. that we may believe, they wish.

as my econ teacher said it is not something that is supposed to be esoteric.

tackle opinions of so called experts. a systematic research on how news could deliver the maximum benifit for all. if news industries today are true to its credo it would do extensive research. before reporting anything, does this actually help, add substantial knowledge to the human stock. repeated shots at the blood while the news reporter ask light questions is not that good. how about an opinion of a MMDA each time this happens, a psychologist, a lawyer to know things such as the last clear chance, so that when accidents do happen, we are saved from illogical and self-serving one-sided arguments. once i saw the thing, the argument was circular arriving at a certain nowhere. if these people just knew. then i would not have to constrain myself to telling them lest i get tangled up. this last clear chance was common sense to me, my father being a lawyer. but to them it seemed an esoteric knowledge. after all waht is common sense but the summation of past experiences and distilled into a useful adage. maybe if this kind of things are incorporated into news, into the primetime news, then it would be commonsense to all. there is a nightly radio program for lawyers that tells this stuff, and it will be better if its with the news that has video, which is the comparative advantage of tv news a picture is worth a thousand words, what does 24frames a second tell? also if it is a thousand words they are jumbled and need some deciphering, that brings us to the neccessity of opinion. precisely crafted words by experts.

the supreme challenge is how to make this suit the layman. how to hold their attention like little kids. that is research teams with behavioral economist, psychologist and other smart people in this field should do this. much like how matheinik is for math for kids, this will be the same for adults. Day by day, listening to the morning radio news during my trips to school, i began uncover something that made me quite uneasy that compelled me to think for some time and to write about it. My little paper concerns itself about the way news programs are constructed and presented and how it could be reconstructed and represented for the betterment of all, by means of providing analysis provided by experts of clashing opinions seamlessly integrated within the news. it encourages passivity if the dots are not connected and soon enough a charismatic somone who claims to know this comes around and explains these phenomenons in a larger context that is flawed and illogical but based on a cursory examination is true (for the masses of people are not really given the tools) and it will do for this guy/girl. it not only allows stupid politicians enter the scene but also forces better politicians a cut above the rest resort to lying by giving unreasonable platforms and projects and using vague but inspiring talks. Walang Kurap walang mahirap, does not really give a timeline, and because of this, some bunch of people are restless and start what they know they can do, that can help, which is to rally, to vadalize, to waste human time and energy doing this. i really do not know much of the dynamics that goes around this society, what is know is only of little but it is enough for me to write this impossible piece.

it is day one and with all the commotion here and about i feel all tingly inside. i forgot what i did a while ago but what is important is now. my father is now sitting and talking to the miss that will determine how i will learn in this school, in this classroom, in this year and in this time slot. (well i was not really consciously thinking of that but i'm sure my subconscious was working overtime and getting there). anyway this is my second year in "kindergarden" and not even feeling a little bit scared or nervousness -- i think its my upbringing and how my parents psyched me up a while ago -- i decide it is not normal, or what i am feeling or not feeling is not normal and strange. presently i find myself acting to be a nervous student for i feel that i must be a little bit scared like all the other children -- again i think it was the pep talk a while ago -- by shaking my knee up and down. i made this last for a while till a got tired or was it because i realized i was making a fool of myself or was it the attention span of mine? then she calls me, i may not see the pearly whity, glittering beaming, shimmering glowing, shining gleaming (or almost) teeth of those two, but i was sure their joy must have burst forth and infected every living cell (even the yakult bacteria which is my daily sustenance are happy) in me -- or was it all the hullabaloo and merrymaking of this bunch or roughhousing kids i will now call classmates.

Nothing so validates oneself than other people reaching to the same conclusion with other methodology. Approximately one month ago i started thinking about this phenomenon, trying to grapple it, subdue it:D

I write this because we need to consciously know what we know.

Let's start with the basics. When we watch the News, we see more fires than smoke, which is not only literally true, but metaphorically as well. Literally true as my professor in Brodcasting 10 taught me. As people we are inclined to think we are interested more in action and dynamism, not the dying ember that is static, and the News providing what exactly we thought we needed, which is the raging fire video clip. Only with the dying ember, can we see the the extent of the damage done, the possible ramifications and to where it in relatively long term leads to. Metaphorically for it applies to many things, one of which is the infamous government policies. The News today make it seem that it is of paramount importance what is happening now, not what has transpired yesterday but the effects are still being felt today. There is of course an almost infinite pieces of information that can be considered as news, multiply that to the almost infinite number of perspectives and we have almost impossible mess. Relevant disparate shreds of information are scattered, that it is so hard to weave them into one almost continuous whole. And when an attempt to do so, they do so only at elections, at anniversaries, and not on primetime where few people get to see them and even less that understand, which combines overall to not.

When policies are enacted upon. passivity. barriers of education.
even the market values every second of commercial worth at least thousands of pesos. so there lies a heavy burdern to the news producers and they must put only the most worthwhile things into the air. i doubt thee, newsology.

usher in a new era of people centric news. not an event centric one. does reporting this actually help more (the opportunity cost of reporting this or the other)for the listeners in their daily lives. Of course it helps, seeing fire burning in various tints and shades, seeing raids, a moving camera, i thought that is why films are made for and they can always have the not primetime slot. and of course there is always a better way. with that mindset is how every tidbit of news must be constructed and considered as such.like showing a video clip of a fire burning for a minute. really i know fire is red, sometimes blue, gree, orange, yellow and so?
tackle opinions of so called experts. a systematic research on how news could deliver the maximum benifit for all. if news industries today are true to its credo it would do extensive research. before reporting anything, does this actually help, add substantial knowledge to the human stock. repeated shots at the blood while the news reporter ask light questions is not that good. how about an opinion of a MMDA each time this happens, a psychologist, a lawyer to know things such as the last clear chance, so that when accidents do happen, we are saved from illogical and self-serving one-sided arguments. once i saw the thing, the argument was circular arriving at a certain nowhere. if these people just knew. then i would not have to constrain myself to telling them lest i get tangled up. this last clear chance was common sense to me, my father being a lawyer. but to them it seemed an esoteric knowledge. after all waht is common sense but the summation of past experiences and distilled into a useful adage. maybe if this kind of things are incorporated into news, into the primetime news, then it would be commonsense to all. there is a nightly radio program for lawyers that tells this stuff, and it will be better if its with the news that has video, which is the comparative advantage of tv news a picture is worth a thousand words, what does 24frames a second tell? also if it is a thousand words they are jumbled and need some deciphering, that brings us to the neccessity of opinion. precisely crafted words by experts.

the supreme challenge is how to make this suit the layman. how to hold their attention like little kids. that is research teams with behavioral economist, psychologist and other smart people in this field should do this. much like how matheinik is for math for kids, this will be the same for adults.

the news in its current structure ,reflects much about the manifestation of the society's current ills, less about the deep underlying phenomena that is the cause, which if made known to all might cause for a. REporting about unvisually stimulating things, like the effect of E-VAT, the effect of foreign competition and all.
though i may not produce a coherent point, i need more data to substantiate my claims, after all, i am still a student, a student who wants to learn and wants to learn and want to apply want is learned.how about presenting a , say, an expert opinion on two opposite sides and let the public decide, since the passing of the e-vat it has helped Philippines recover from its debt, and that information is largely unknown to he lay public. Though it might be questionable if the cost offsets the benifit.
the news can be so much informative than its present state, and that can achieved not easily, though it may evolve into such in the future, i might as well write this , for all we know this might be it. help the consumer of this news pierce through the veil of complexity and politics.
it really needs a lot of time pondering to really see how the dots connect. that is what seems to be missing in the news industry today. push for greater involvement in educating the masses. take the sensitive issue of the e-vat, of course it is unpopular for it places an unneccesary burden on the consumers,

wistful of days long gone

still i am in the state of disbelief, making it through the most exhausting ordeal yet.tested thy wits and thy will as limit approaches the maximum shearing force and the maximum tensile strength. there were a lot of times i simply thought of quitting and giving up, forgetting all that i’ve been through and managed against great odds; this time i knew it was different. it was insurmountable. lo and behold, I gave up, couple of times, it’s just that i coerced myself with no small difficulty to reconsider exactly the same number of couple of times. well who could blame me, knowing that grades for all the grand rhetoric and the limelight that it gets; cannot and will not be able to affect my future significantly, after all, its a grade based on certain criteria set forth by an institution. don't get me wrong, it is the most venerable institution in these islands, it's just that being the best grades here, will not necessarily guarantee the best grades in life, it is simply put, a non sequitur.
knowing billy , marky and johnny (?) are all without a degree, it just seems to make matters worse, a lot worse. specially when getting the volumes of weird solids that are the intersection of the cartesian planes and an elliptic paraboloid, it’s just not my comparative advantage, so why exert such effort. thoughts that those who survive auschwitz are not those that are sturdy in body but in the mind, where all battles are fought and hopefully won -and this is not an exaggeration- clung to my mind like gravity to matter in these trying times. i was consoling myself.
on my cursory self-examination it was pride that propelled me to such heights (which is barely above passing), but a little more rumination and the pride vanishes in the suspects list, and it was not even self-worth but belligerence. licked at the start but still fighting, when --blah blah blah--yes, that is all the inspirational stuff that inspirational movies evoke and inspirational lines have a plenty. it was not even the possible retention of my dost scholarship that was the primary motivational facotr, but just the fight itself. which is like that winning isn't everything.
there were a lot of things running rampant and amok inside this little thinking faculty, yes, a whole heap of them. some were the ironic black jacket, 1st time is suspicion, nth time is confirmation, economics, eyes, 6am-10pm, Macbeth, melt, heavy breathing, weak, pablo neruda, 300 sparta!, cold, black, 2 consecutive happiest days of my sem, ldmu, 10,000 hrs, rekindle the combustible material, no!-rorschach of watchmen, they should have brought a raincoat:D, love, bonaparte 4 hrs of sleep, akheleus ; of course they are mangled-jumbled, so only i can understand and give meaning to:D

there is something deeply soothing about the chirping of the birds that live in our roof. its been 20 days since my class and i can attest now with certainty that my circadian rhythm is back to normal, that is sleeping at night and about 11 hours a day. up until now, i was a quasi-nocturnal being. like all things it didn't happen overnight, like great teacher sir arghs said, there is not one big thing, only an aggregation of small ones, or something akin to that. anyway, when i was about to a read a book, as i opened the pages and searched where i left off, no significant dopamine was released, then as i browsed the book, hoping endorphins would be released, not occurred, lastly i tried to browse the net in search of useful articles that unfailingly aroused my interest and kept my eyes and thoughts glued to the screen and story, but alas, 'twas all in vain. serotonin wouldn't just budge or even trickle. instead felt sleepy all this while. happened n number of times with n number of books.

then birds high-pitched songs or at least conversations, but they really hear (as to look:) a song for me, a sweet cool breeze of the air, and the noisy cackling of the fowls of the neighborhood + the lush green slopes of the nearby hill is the scenery to behold and the unceasing revolution of the sun, particularly when the majestic red-orange glow that burst forth profusely from the horizon and into my eyes, into myself . happy

adumbrate , i do not know what to make of this, this temporary paradigm shift of what is urgent and important.

human psyche .101

and now we resume the study of the human psyche, or rather the process of writing down my findings into paper which in this is an electronic representation of a paper, which i believe is critical for future analysis and in retrospect<---(i don't really know this word:)). chinese people of the old have really wise adages that rings true then as it is now, like the strongest memory is no match than the palest ink, and one who wakes up before the sun 360 times a year never fails to make his family rich, and the former is the reason why i am here.

people sometime or rather always circle around somebody if they have a business with that somebody, all the while pretending to looking for someone/something else, it's as if they deem it the most appropriate approach, which is indirectly, and on the plus side, they nobody can read their intentions (i myself do this:). but if one can take time, and look into their eyes, the fovea which usually contains the subject of intention is far too distant, as if they're observing the wall, the bench, the shirt and other nonsensical stuff that generally does not demand interest, and in effect the fovea's positioning and motion are stiff, artificial , empty. Also the ever present restroom is a fanciful excuse from moving around and around and around.

when i get wistful (which is most of the time) these happy thoughts which are drawn by a rope down from heaven into the abyss of unbeing (a proustian moment), can be likened to vast library of data, waiting to be read and understand. the epiphany that dawns upon me from time to time, the cerebral shooting stars that illuminate the past out of darkness (words from time magazine) , are reinforced greatly by the superb memory bank, memories of empirical observations with not much use before , that are constantly popping out like daisies are now cast in a different light.

like feelings stay relatively constant, its only the actions and reactions can be quite different depending on the mood, environment, proxemics, weather? and others.

like personality with a much greater rigidity and are static, varying insignificantly even against long years and multitude of experiences, the template of personality and intellect at which every stimulus or experiences are processed and screened are constant and immutable.

that said, i hope that i do not forget this revelations, so as not to waste time and resource for the future. i am echoing machiavelli's findings that human nature is constant.

Isa sa mga reliko ng nakaraan na nakita ko sa Lakbay , na hosted ni Ferdie, na itinuturing ko na nakakaantig ng damdamin at wasto para pag isipan at isulat liban sa kabayanihan ni Rizal at ni Bonifacio na hindi ko na puedeng isulat, ay ang kampana ng simbahan na pinapalakad ng Dominikano na binisita namin sa Cavite. Ayon sa isang Domikanong co-host, sila ang kaibigan ng mga Pilipino, sila ang mabait na prayle, sapagakat mga Pilipino din sila di tulad nang ibang order, lahat ng ito'y habang napangitingiti si Ferdie sa gilid. Paakyat palang ako, ay nabigla rin ako nang kaunti, na mataas pala talaga ang estasyon ng kampana, sapagkat di ko inaasahan, na sa medyo sinaunang panahon, ay gagawa sila nang mataas na istraktura, na ang tanging nakalagay mula ikalawang palapag hanggang sa siguro umabotng ikalimang palapag; ay kawalan at ang kampana.

Habang pinagmamasdan ko ang kampana, pakiramdam ko ako ay hinuhugot ng aking imahenasyon sa nakaraan, kung saan walang facebook, kuryente, eroplano, kupas na larawan at higit sa lahat, kalayaan, lahat ng ito'y dulot ng dambuhalang pirasong bakal at kalawang na ngayo'y magkatagpi at di mawari kung saan nagsisimula ang isa at saan nagtatapos.

Rinig ng lahat sa Pueblo ay dupikal nito, dahil sa laki at sa taas ng kinatatayuan at sa lukasyon din, sapagkat ang simbahan kung nasaan ang kampana ay nasa puso ng Pueblo. Kung ang Kristiyanismo ang puso ng Simbahan, ang kampana ay parang pagtibok nito, na nagpapatunay ng kanyang lakas at pinagkakalandakan niya ito. Sa umaga o kahit anong oras pa man, kung ang kapitbahay ay nag iingay, ito ay pinapatahimik, ngunit kung ang kampana ang dumupikal, lahat ay tumatahimik. Lahat ay nagbibigay galang, natatatak sa isipan ng tao ang imahe ng kristiyanismo, kahit panandalian lamang. Ngunit ito ay sapat na para, maituwid ang mamamayan sa kagustuhan nag simbahan, na magsimba kayo, o magdasal o kahit ayaw nyo sa gobyerno ay galangin nyo ang simbahan. Napatunayan ito nang kahit habang hihimagsikan ang mga katipunero at sambayanan ay ginagalang parin natin ang Kristiyanismo, at ang mga prayleng nagpapatakbo nito ang siyang pili inaalis sa ating sistema na ayon kay kasama sa Rizal ay Kanser ng Lipunan.

Bakit nga ba ganoon, nalang ang kahulugan ng tunog ng kampana sa ating lipunan? Ang sagot ay dahil ang kampana, ay hindi lamang bakal na pinagtugpitugpi na hinugis at bingyang porma, na pag tinamaan ay dudupikal, pagkat ito'y simbolo ng kapangyarihan at presensya ng simbahan sa ating Pueblo, sa ating lipunan. Ang magandang katanungan ay saan ito nagmula, at paano nalang lumaganap at lumakas nang ganito ? Ito ba ay nahubog na lamang bigla mula sa kawalan, sa pagdating ng mga kastila? Kung hindi, paano nalang ang ideyolohikal na pundasyon nito ay nakisanib sa sinaunang kultura natin at ang paganismo? Ang ebidensya ay tumuturo sa huli; napalitan lamang ng mukha at ngalan ang mga ito, si Bathala na nakatira sa kweba o bundok ay naging Diyos Ama sa langit, mga diwata sa kakahuyan at ilog ay naging Birhen Maria nang iba't ibang lugar at isama na ang mga Santo sa iba't ibang Patron. Ang Kristiyanismo ng Espanyol ay ang simula at ang puno't dulo rin, ngunit unti unti akong naliliwanagan na kayaman ang pangunahing sadya nila. Pagkat sa dami ng mga gera na nilahukan nila, na nanalo naman sila, kaya't sila ang naging kaunaunahang global super power, ngunit ang kapalit nito ay malahiganteng utang, na sinamahan pa ng di pag bayad ng tax ng mga Hidalgo o nobilidad nila. At ang Pilipinas ay isa sa marami nilang mga kolonya, kaya katakot takot na pagpapasakit sa ating mga kababayan at ekonomiya na dulot ng paghahakot nila ng likas na yaman dito. Tama nga, na sila ang nagpakilala nang inobasyon sa siyensya sa maraming aspeto ng ating pamumuhay, ngunit sila lang ba ang may kakayahan na mag dala dito ng ganoon at kailangan ba sa ganoong paraan? Sa huli, di rin nila nabayaran ang utang nila, kaya't dahan dahang silang bumagsak sa estadong superpower. Buti nalang pala ang turing sa atin ng mga Tsino, tayong mga sa labas ng Middle Kingdom ay Barbarian, kaya'y wala silang gana sakupin tayo, .

Base sa pagsusuri, relihiyon ang isa sa pinakamainam na medyum para manakop ng bayan. Ito'y tumatagal at self sustaining kung baga, isang halimbawa, sa computer game na Civilization ni Sid Meier kung ang karatig na siyudad ay may relihiyon na tulad sa iyong pinapalaganap, ito ay magiging mas mabuting kaalyansa sa mga darating na panahon, sa gutom, sa hirap, sa gera at pagkatapos nang lahat, kayo pa rin ang mag karelihiyon, kaya't mas magsasama kayo kaysa ibang siyudad o sibilisasyon. Samakatuwid, ang pagkakatuto ng mga Espanyol sa ating wika ay nakatulong nang malaki sa kanilang propaganda. Luminaw nang lubos ang pakikipag ugnayan nila sa atin, kahit na tayo'y pinagmamalabisan. Kaya't matagumpay nilang sistematikong pagtuturo ng kristiyanismo ngunit may mga salita dayuhan pa rin na ang kinaligtaan, kaya't para naging loro ang edukasyon kuno, liban sa iilang illustrado at mayayaman, kaya't di talaga maituturing na edukasyon ito kundi sistematikong pagkakabisado. At dahil sa mga epektibong paraan na ipinatupad ay tuluyang sumailalim na ang Pilipinas sa Haring ng Espanya. Mayroong mga pag aalsa, ngunit kulang ang lakas at dami ng mga ito para mapakawala tayo sa pagkakabihag, mabisa nga ang kapangyarihan ng lengguahe papuntang simbahan, at simbahan papuntang kolonyalismo.

Hindi ibig sabihin na naging madali ang transisyon na ito, mula sa paganismo papuntang Kristiyanismo. watch the show idiot and mackbath

having watched 3 idiots was one of the main highlights of my ordinarily boring sunday, it was a break from my usual humdrum laid-back life in the province, and it was great and as common as this may sound, inspirational. which reminds me how i enjoyed a not so spectacular show. it began with almost unrecognizable pronunciations and utterances of the english language, for it was british, like out is pronounced as (owwt) and many more blunders. well, not exactly, it's just that my brain and hearing is not fine tuned to such sounds (see patria kuhl in tedtalks). but to make the long story short, it was because of my company (not the one that will be established) that coerced me into liking it. i was actually suprised, in for some hours, i actually thought i liked the show, but upon careful examination of my subconscious (yeah:P) it was the insinuations of her.

for after the halftime break, we started conversing, or rather she started talking and i agreeing, cuz i really can't think straight or rationally during those crucial (yep) times, can't start a topic that we were both well averse, and the sporadic silence of the play can only afford so much. with frequent laughs and praise that i clearly hear from her, my subconscious state of mind changed gears and started the usual mirroring, which is normal behaviour in psychology, which i have read somewhat extensively (for a normal person). the change of mood, from "wanting this to end" to "please have an indefinite extension of the play" was gradual, it took somewhat close to a few minutes, and from thereon, the mood was in corporeally ephemerally perpetual bliss:D

i have an idea, a bout a hand-held scanner that scans pictures and text. well, i have seen anything like it in the market place, 1st and foremost it will have built-in algorithm that processes not what is have scanned twice in a single page. meaning if it accidentally scanned the same area of the same page, it will reconstruct it in such a way that it will reconnect the disparate shreds of data/information/text/images of the same page into a single continuous page. the program must be included in the hand-held scanners data drive (<---shoooot), so and the scanner, when plugged-in with a computer using bluetooth or else, it will install the program with the aforementioned algorithm, so as that the user can see the scanned images, note that the are scanned twice will not be automatically deleted, but it will be putheth in a separate folder under the heading double area. this i believe will create an explosion in information, that could go hand in hand with that of tablets, like if you do not want to carry your hard bound books, for an exam, that you will only need a few pages, why not scan them, and putheth in thy tablet, to be read later on? the possible ramifications of this is that people will scan even copyrighted materials in the libraries and distribute them illegally. the cost benefit analysis will help us through with this one.

*the one doing the computing the algorithm will be the computer, not the scanner, the scanner will only send information to the hub of the computer.

at first, after cursory examination of the movie with the help of fast forwards button, i thought, shoot, i wasted bandwidth by downloading this black and white movie, which probably has no significance to me now, for the time difference might be to big, and i might as well watched other great modern, significant movies worth my while, but it turned out to be like some like it hot. it was and is worthy to be in the list of 100 greatest movies of all time. the twist in the ending makes it so, and the unfolding of the story, as much as unfolding of the innards of the human psyche. that man may twist and turn and wrestle against his faith, but in the end it is futile. in the end, we are human beings, capable of sympathy, empathy, love, sacrifice --not that lower animals are incapable of these, for science is shedding light that they do to, it's just that it is an immutable and in inextractable part of who we are and what will we be-- and above all meaning. the ending was justified it all. hoopla for the cinema industry at that time. also the facial expressions of their acting were believable, for i have read words that point to otherwise. though my skill in judging how well good actors size up against other good actors is really not much of a skill but rather guessing, i must say i am surprisingly impressed how goooood they were.

have just finished economics 100.1 exam a hours ago, (so it's not just, right?) and i wonder whether it was worth it, all those hours i spent reading the textbooks, magazines, watching videos here and there. though i don't know what the exam score will mean years from now,i do know that for now it is just a grade used to systematically test my aptitude in the social science of optimal allocation of scarce resources and it's distribution for present and future consumption, i mean it has no way of determining who i will be. which was exactly what i was thinking a hours before the exam me, so logically, i started reading ron chernow's TITAN. he started working at age 16, sixteen, an age where in this generation, partying all night long is one preoccupation where application produces long queues. he worked 6:30 am to 10pm sometimes. so i wonder, with no college education he accomplished all that , is it possible nowadays?

Naabot ko na ang ring ulit, last time ko eh nung summer pa.....SO sobrang delay ung GOAL ko na dumakdak....nasa Phil Sci kasi ako eh....dapat nung 2nd year palang ay dumadakdak na ako, kung ibang school...ung kuya ko 1st year highschool abot nya na ung ring...so kita na 2taon ang lamang nya sa galingg.

the recent pisay tune up game or at least i thought it to be was as success. For not only did the sophomores, junior and seniors able to equal the much older and more veteran in playing basketball, but did much more. We held a comfortable lead in the dying seconds or minutes, for thanks to God that I made myself useful. The score didn't matter for we are sure to win in the last second, that my memory about the score is not clear but more than 7 pts is the lead.ala lang gusto ko lang kunyari writer ako ala lang. axel, arce, big brother kuya joriel, niko, at isang damer ang kalaban namin ala lang.
